Accreditation for Surveying and UKPMS

SCANNER

SCANNER surveys are automated high-speed surveys which gather data concerning the surface condition. Before a survey vehicle can be used to carry out a SCANNER survey, the SCANNER Specification defines the technical requirements for SCANNER survey parameters and accreditation testing. There are also requirements for the SCANNER survey data and the quality assurance procedures, the independent auditor for which is currently TRL

If you are looking to develop a machine capable of SCANNER surveys, you may wish to review further information on the accreditation procedure

If you are looking for a contractor to carry out SCANNER surveys on your behalf, you may wish to check the list of current SCANNER accredited machines and their certificates.

UKPMS

This is a UKPMS-accredited Pavement Management System. Testing of UKPMS systems is organised in three “Tranches” of functionality, although accreditation is only gained when tests for all three tranches have been passed. Tranche 1 is the first step required to set up a 'UKPMS' database. It includes all the necessary input and validation routines for specified data. Tranche 2 introduces the functionality to analyse the recorded defects and produce treatment recommendations. Tranche 3 adds important specific functions to the Tranche 2 functionality. More detail is available on the UKPMS summary page.

Each system is tested every time a new test sequence is issued, called an Annual Health Check. The current accredited systems, and those from previous years, can be found on the UKPMS Annual Health Check page.

Visual Survey

There is an accreditation procedure to become a visual survey inspector. This includes passing a test organised by an accredited Visual Survey Assessor. A list of current accredited visual survey inspectors is accessible on this website.
