PCIS Regional Seminar Series

A free series of seminars were held in 2009 and 2010. They were focused on the subjects of getting the most from Pavement Condition Information Systems; and the efficient and effective use of data from Pavement Condition Information Systems, respectively. These seminars are aimed at those involved in pavement asset management within local authorities and their service providers.

2009: Getting the Most from Pavement Condition Information Systems

Four seminars were delivered in 2009 in Newcastle, Manchester, Bristol and London.Map of seminar locations

The aim of the seminar series was to

  • Spread knowledge and understanding of PCIS within local authorities and their service providers of:
    • Survey methods, both visual inspections and machine surveys
    • Analysis methods, both within UKPMS and others
    • Practical ways of using the results
  • Share examples of “good practice” so that local authorities and service providers can learn from one another
  • Share examples of “problems and difficulties” so that we can resolve them,
    • Problems with survey methods or survey data
    • Problems with analysis methods and systems
    • Problems using the results in practice

Each day followed a similar structure with talks being delivered by members of the PCIS support team and guest speakers from local authorities. The local authority speaker presentations were different at each event. All the presentations are available to download, regardless of which event they appeared in.

2010: Efficient and Effective use of data from Pavement Condition Information Systems

Two seminars were delivered in Manchester and London in 2010.

These seminars provided the opportinty to learn from the experts on how to gain maximum benefit from visual survey and SCANNER data, using UKPMS functionality and other tools.

Guest speakers from local authorities leading the way in pavement asset management were featured at both seminars. Participants learnt examples of good practice and ways to maximise the benefits the data and systems offer, and how these can lead to significant, measureable cost efficiencies.

All the presentations are available to view and download in the Library part of this website.
